Greater Mossel Bay CPF's Kaskar Race 2026

It is with regret that the four Community Policing Forums (CPFs) of Greater Mossel Bay, namely Mossel Bay CPF, Da Gamaskop CPF, KwaNonqaba CPF and Great Brak River CPF, hereby formally notify the Municipality that we have taken the difficult decision to cancel the 2026 Greater Mossel Bay Kaskar Race and the associated market stalls that were planned for Harry Giddey Park.

The event was scheduled to take place during the last weekend of August 2026 and was intended to serve as one of the opening events of the Municipality’s Sports and Recreation Program. Following extensive planning and promotional efforts, we have unfortunately experienced extremely low public interest. To date, no official race entries have been received and virtually no meaningful enquiries have been recorded despite the event having been widely advertised.

As community organizations, we have a responsibility to ensure that events entrusted to us are viable, safe, financially responsible and capable of achieving their intended objectives. After careful consideration and consultation between the four CPFs, we have concluded that proceeding with the event under the current circumstances would not be in the best interests of the community, sponsors, participants or the Municipality.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Mossel Bay Municipality for its support, cooperation and willingness to partner with the CPFs in this initiative. We also extend our gratitude to all stakeholders, volunteers and individuals who contributed their time and effort towards the planning process.

The four CPFs remain committed to supporting initiatives that promote community participation, social cohesion, recreation and local economic development. We would welcome future discussions regarding alternative opportunities and community-based events that may better serve these objectives.

We trust that the Municipality will understand the reasons for this decision and we apologise for any inconvenience that may result from the cancellation.
